Thassos, from the ancient times until today, is one dynamic center of apiculture. The Cooperative of Apiculture in Thassos, which has more than 100 apiarists, is located in the area of Prinou. This specific apiculture center functions for the last 25 years. The aim of the center is the concentration, standardization and disposal of the honey in the Greek market, as well as in the markets abroad.

In our days the wine production is not as important as it used to be in the past. Nowadays is really limited and it’s not even enough for family consumption. Most of them are located near the sea, where the trade of the vases through the sea was easier.

In the end of 18th century the olive groves took the place of the vines. Thus the olive oil became one basic alimentary element for the residents. The last studies show that the residents of Thasos have less heart problems than the residents of the area of Kavala, which is famous for the olive oil. The beneficial action that has the olive oil is due to its composition and its rich content of greasy acids.
