Thassos Island Limenas Village Thassos or Limenas

The town of Thassos that is also called Limenas by the local residents is the capital and the main port of the island. It is located in the north-eastern side of Thassos and concentrates the mayor part of the population.
Is the commercial and administrative capital of the island, since accommodates the majority of the public services and many hotels, shops and restaurants.
It’s worth visiting the ancient agora of Thassos, the ancient theater, acropolis and the archeological museum. Also, the visitor can admire many old churches such as the church of Agios Nicolaos, the monastery of Batopedi that is located in the port and is the symbol of Thassos. In a small distance there are the beautiful beaches of Macriammos, Glifada, Papalimani, Nysteri and the beach of Pagi.

Thassos Island Prinos Village Prinos

Prinos is the biggest village in the western part of Thasos and is one of the most important areas for the economy of the island, due to the layers of oil that have been found here.
The tourist infrastructure is getting better every year. There are hotels and rooms for rent that can provide all the necessary comforts.
It’s worth visiting the Dasillio (=small forest) of Prinos, the church of Agios Panteleimonas as well as the traditional village Kazabiti, one of the most graphic villages of Thasos with old mansions and churches. It is located only 4km. from the village Prinos.

Thassos Island Limenaria Village Limenaria

Limenaria is the second biggest town of the island that was developed in the end of 19th century. The area became commercially known because of the existing mines. With the village of Kalivia, which is the continuity of Limenaria, approach in total the population of the capital
In the area there are hotels and rooms for rent while on the seaside road you can find taverns, cafes and shops.
Close by there are the beach Metallia, the beach of Limenaria and Tripiti.

Thassos Island Panagia VillagePanagia

This small traditional village is located 9km. from the capital of the island. He took its name from the very old church of Madonna (=Panagia) that is located here. The village is famous for the chapels, for the delicious sweets of spoon, the strong local tsipouro and the beautiful beach of Chrisi Ammoudia that is located close by.
In the area there are a lot of hotels, rooms for rent and camping.

Thassos Island Potamia Village Potamia

The village Potamia is located south-eastern of the capital. It is built on the foot of the mountain Ipsario that is the tallest mountain of Thasos. It took his name from the many rivers (=potamia) that there are in the village. The waters, the stoned houses with the wooden ceilings and the dense vegetation compose a magic picture.
It’s worth visiting the museum of the famous sculptor Polignotos Bagis that is located in the village.
