Welcome to the island of Skopelos
Skopelos is a green island of the Aegean with golden sandy beaches and covered in pinewoods and the olive groves with the intoxicating aromas of oregano, thyme and pine resin.

The island covers an area of 96 hectares² and a coastline of 67 km. The island is mountainous with the highest peaks of Delphi - 680 m, Palouki - 566 m. The main capes are Gourouni - Pig, Myti - Nose, Velona - Needle and Kiouto. The island population amounts to roughly 5,000 residents of which 3,000 reside in the capital, Hora and the remainder in the settlements of Glossa, Elios - New Klima and Loutraki.

Skopelos is one of the accomplished islands of Greece with capable seamen who travelled all the Mediterranean and the Black Sea coming into contact with other cultures and this had a favourable effect on the way of life of the residents without affecting their traditions. Today the residents of Skopelos are distinguished for their hard work, hospitality, community, intense artistic drive in pottery, painting, music especially the rembetiko song and the support of the traditional arts. The island climate is mild in winter and warm in summer.

The verdant island is crowned with dense forest and in places down to the golden sandy beaches, beautiful beaches with crystal waters are beckoning. The forests of pine and plane trees with streams running through them to the cultivated olive groves, fig, almond, plum, pear, walnut and other fruit trees. In antiquity the island was called Peparicos taken from the name of the son of Ariadni and Dionysus.

Hora, the capital of island, is a preserved traditional settlement by presidential decree. It is a traditional island town with characteristic architecture and cobbled roads. The island is has many old traditional churches, chapels and monasteries, there are 360 churches of which 123 are in Hora. The other villages of island are the Elios or New Klima, Old Klima, Glossa and Loutraki.
