Welcome to the island of Thassos
At the top of the Aegean Sea, far away from stressful thoughts that trouble modern man,
lies Thassos island. Protected by Kavala's gulf, Thassos enjoys the Aegean breeze while
listening to the hidden messages that travel above the waves, sent by the other islands
that envy the loneliness of Thassos, the island that does not accept the wild rhythms of
the cities.
With Ipsarion mountain (height: 1204 m.) as its flag, the island lives through the centuries
spreading sweet sounds made of the leaves' whispers, the waves' dance, the bees' buzz
and the magical longs of birds at slopes and meadows, accompanying the crystal waters
that travel towards the sea.
The plantation decorates the mountainside. Plenty of pines, olive trees, sycamore trees,
cedars, firs etc. embrace the slopes, softening the wildness of the mountain, turning it to
an attraction for the lovers of mountain climbing and walking.
This island combines both sea and mountain, organized beaches and isolated coves,
cosmopolitan lifestyle and ideal places for relaxation. Picturesque villages reveal themselves
one after the other. In Limenas, the island’s capital and main port, you can visit the Temple
of Poseidon, the impressive walls of the castle, the Gate of Silinos, the arch of Karakala
and the Archaeological Museum.
The island is full in little coves with both organized beaches and more isolated bays. Some
are Chrysi Ammoudia at Skala Panagias, Chrysi Akti at Skala Potamias, Kinira, Paradeisos,
Thimonia, Aliki -also described by the locals as island’s swimming pool -, Psili Ammos
and beautiful Pefkari.
