Folklore Museum
The Skopelos has a brilliant cultural heritage. The rich material of this cultural heritage has been assembled in the Folklore Museum of Skopelos maintaining the live identity of the place.
The Folklore Museum of Skopelos was founded in 1991 by the Gianniou Nikolaidi family. It opened in1993 in an old mansion that was built in 1795 and was maintained up to 1965 when is suffered serious damage from earthquakes. In 1971, it was restored maintaining all the traditional characteristics of the settlement. The configuration of the Folklore Museum was assigned to the interior decorator, S Zano and the scientific documentation of the collections was undertaken by Professor Katerina Korre-Painter.
On the ground floor houses the history, the traditions and customs of Skopelos. On the first floor is the traditional costume collection. The collections are supplemented by pictures, embroideries, black and white photographs, many of which were donated by the Nikolaidi family and the Geogara family collection of fine thread embroideries, objects relating to the handicrafts and the traditional craftsmen of the island.
On the second floor is the Rodiou family ceramic collection. The collections are complimented by the amazing miniature ships built by Triandafyllo Bountala.
The Glossa Folklore Museum is a new addition offering insight to the cultural heritage of the island.
