AWARDED ISLANDS
Sendoukia Sendoukia

In the locality of Sentoukia the ancient carved graves were found, possibly of the post Roman period, on mount Delphi near the monastery of Agios Nikolaos. The place is somewhat inaccessible; however an afternoon walk will be compensated with the panoramic view of the surrounding islands.

Venetian Fort ruins Venetian Fort ruins

Below the ruins of the Venetian fortress Castle was the citadel of the classic period with the wall of ancient Peparithou. In the west and the north-west of the Castle, known as Kanaki tou Lakka and Rahes of Ag Konstandinos, are the well made walls that supported the platforms on which where probably built the temples of Athina and Dionyssos. In the region are a lot of small chapels as that of Agios Athanassios that was also the first metropolitan church inside the fortress of the city and has marvelous 17th century murals. Its foundations rest upon an ancient temple.

Asklipiou Church ruins

The ruins of the Asklipiou chapel, in Ampeliki, that is dated to the 4th century BC. Excavations have revealed buildings of the period with offerings, statues and relics mainly from the Hellenic years.

Selinoundas Wall

Selinoundas was built in current Loutraki. Its name is recorded from 2nd century AD; however there are signs of more ancient origin. Only a small part of its fortifications remain. Many additions were added to its walls with some of 4th century BC. The wall was angular with recesses built with assiduity. The existence of towers cannot be confirmed. The wall was built using uniform stones with a curved exterior surface. There is evidence of three different phases of building, the polygonal type of archaic period, the classical of the Hellenic 4th century and the Byzantine bricks that were added later.
