Paros sits in the centre of the Cyclades and is one of the best-connected islands, which makes it a natural hub for island hopping. It offers the classic Cycladic look with whitewashed villages and blue doors, but with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and excellent beaches. The port town of Parikia has a charming old quarter, the remains of a Frankish castle built from ancient marble and the Panagia Ekatontapyliani, one of the most important early Christian churches in Greece. On the north coast, Naoussa is a picturesque fishing harbour with a small Venetian fortress, stylish restaurants and lively bars. Inland, the mountain village of Lefkes is linked to the coast by a well-preserved Byzantine footpath, a lovely walk through olive groves. Paros was famous in antiquity for its pure white marble, and the ancient quarries can still be visited. Beaches such as Kolymbithres with its sculpted granite rocks, Santa Maria, Golden Beach and Pounda are popular, and the island is a top spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Next door, little Antiparos adds a beautiful cave and quiet beaches. Paros has a small airport and frequent ferries, and suits families, couples and groups of friends.

By air
Paros National Airport, near Alyki, has flights from Athens and some seasonal flights from abroad. Many visitors fly into Mykonos, Santorini or Athens instead and take a ferry, as Paros is one of the best-connected islands. Most hotels are 15 to 30 minutes from the airport.
By ferry
Parikia is one of the main ferry hubs of the Cyclades, with frequent ferries and fast boats to Piraeus, Rafina, Naxos, Mykonos, Ios, Santorini and the small islands. Island hopping from here is very easy. Antiparos is a few minutes away by ferry from Pounta.
Getting around
Optional. Paros has a good bus network linking Parikia, Naousa, Lefkes and the main beaches. A car, scooter or ATV is handy if you want to explore quieter beaches and villages, or take the car ferry to Antiparos.
